We offer our Youth Leadership Training (YLT) program for 14-17 year olds as part of our ongoing commitment to teens and grooming young people for leadership positions. The program provides teens with the training necessary to work with younger children and gives the youth leader real opportunities to use these newly learned skills in a camp environment. YLTs are supervised by a director who will evaluate and give feedback to foster learning and growth.
In order to participate in the program YLT's must commit to at least 2 weeks of summer camp and can participate in no more than 4 weeks unless asked to return under special agreement from the Day Camp administration. There is also one mandatory weekend training retreat in spring, which helps YLT's make the transition from camper to counselor, and to meet and get to know the other YLT's.
YLTs must reapply for the program each year. Since YLT's are under 18, parents must sign the YLT Application Form.
Returning applicants need to complete the YLT Re-Application Form and new applicants need to complete the YLT Application Form. All applicants are required to write a brief essay, submit two YLT Reference Forms, and sign and submit a YLT Code of Conduct Form.
CPR and First Aid certification are encouraged but not required.
